Ian James Brown
Ian James Brown keeps all the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees and of committees having any of the authority of the Board of Trustees in one or more books provided for that purpose; see that notices are duly given in accordance with these By laws or as required by law; be custodian of the corporate records and of the seal of the Corporation, and see that the seal of the Corporation is affixed to all documents, the execution of which on behalf of the Corporation is duly authorized in accordance with the provision of these By laws; and in general perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the President or by the Board of Trustees.
In high school, Ian was a volunteer Fireman, First Aid, and Scuba Rescue Diver while playing 3 sports, working 3 jobs and maintaining straight A’s. Ian graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1999. At the Academy, Ian was a Jumpmaster and Parachute Instructor as well as a professional exhibition skydiver for his 4 years. Ian played football, rugby and volleyball as well competing in boxing, power lifting and martial arts. Ian majored in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, with minors in Aeronautical Engineering and Astrophysics. Ian was a Combat Rescue Officer (pararescue jumper or PJ) in the Air Force and played professional rugby for Boston. Ian then went to flight school to become a military aviator.
Following flight school, Ian was injured serving in the line of duty on the flight line; he became paralyzed (T2A neurological, initial diagnosis) in January 2002. Following rehabilitation, Ian attended graduate school at Harvard to receive a Master’s in I.T. with a focus on Bio-Informatics. Ian then began a post-baccalaureate program to finish the pre-requisite courses for medical school and plans to apply to me dical school in 2009. Ian is heavily involved in neuro-spinal research and assists at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation as well as the Bronx Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. Ian works toward treating the consequences and rehabilitation of spinal injuries and traumatic brain injuries. Ian also works to help fit customized wheelchairs to the disabled population as a representative for Lasher Sport, LLC.
As a volunteer for Lasher Sport for over a year and a half and an ambassador to the Abilities Expos, Ian meets local clients, and travels abroad to meet patients with varied diagnoses to help find and suggest durable medical equipment, disabled resources, and medical research programs all via personal funding. Though a retired military officer, Ian hopes to re-join the working force in Neuro-spinal research (specifically in neuro-technology and cure research) following med ical school. Ian is also a wheelchair athlete and competed for the first time post-injury in power lifting and archery at the 2008 Veteran’s Wheelchair Games in Omaha, Nebraska where he brought home 3 gold medals.
